This is not clear. According to Rambam, at least, it is also necessary that the 12 tribes reside in the land properly apportioned into inheritances. (Otherwise how do you do a yovel? Who do you return the land to?)

It sounded like the article just said that Israel has more Jews than any other country - NOT all other countries combined. This seems to be a critical difference.
Thanks. I read it. I don't agree with his thesis that if, G-d forbid, Israel is destroyed that will be the end of Jewry. It is in contradition with the Torah. Other than that it was an interesting article.

I had the same objection. Still it had an internal logic and basically observed that there's a kibbutz golios going on.
