Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat said Tuesday evening that the city-operated Safra parking lot would open this coming Sabbath, less than a month after the parking lot closed when Haredi protests on the issue turned violent. “This is a matter of principle that doesn’t change the status quo,” Barkat claimed. “Consideration and negotiations do not take the place of making decisions when necessary.”
