A Public Service Anouncement From Cosmic X

Starting January 1, 2006 Israelis will be required to have a reflective vest in their automobiles.

I bought one the other day for 20 shekels (about $4.50). The idea is that if you have to stop on the road at night, you put the vest on so that other drivers can see you. If it saves even one life, it is worth it.

Do they have them in Orange?

I thinks so.

Too many Israeli drivers don't even put on their warning lights and properly set up a warning triangle. They're going to put on a reflective vest?

I fear the Law of Unintended Consequences: Drivers leaving their vehicles with reflective vests on may be less cautious than they should, assuming they can easily be seen by others.

There are no quick fixes for road safety.

Cosmic: How much do you want to bet, that someone in the Ministry of Transportation has a brother who owns the exclusive rights on importing these yellows vests?

Same thing happened 15 years ago with the 3M red reflective stripes on the backs of cars....Then, someone from 3M (related to someone in the government) said, the zebra red and white ones are better, and the law "magically" switched, and 3M made another killing on it.

Oooohhh, maybe my school should provide me with one for safer roadside "tremping."
