Staring Reality In The Face
The other day I was in downtown Jerusalem and felt that my stomach was growling. "A hot slice of pizza will solve that problem," I thought to myself. I went into "Big Apple Pizza" on Jaffa Street, ordered a slice of pizza and sat down to eat. There were was some technopop music playing in the background. It kind of reminded me of the disco music of the 1970s. Perhaps it was the taste of the pizza, perhaps it was the music. Slowly my mind drifted away from Jerusalem, and headed back to suburban New Jersey 30 years ago. All sorts of images passed through my mind: High School, shopping malls, friends, parties, etc. I was totally oblivious to the other people at the pizzeria as well as those passing by on Jaffa Street. Suddenly I looked up and saw a middle aged guy with a grey beard staring at me. It was my own reflection. The wall in front of me was covered with a long mirror. I quickly returned to reality.

Cosmic, nice post, two questions though:
1) Is the Big Apple on Yaffo as good as the one on Ben Yehudah?
2) Middle aged and a grey beard???
Ze'ev,
1) Don't know. Never ate there.
2) Yup.
But who could forget Richie's Pizza? Or the huge corkboard for messages? Granted, Apple Pizza was always better, but was never as iconic as Richie's Pizza was...or Carvels. The lines for an ice cream there could be for an hour or two.
I'm not sure exactly what the point is of what you are trying to share with us with this post.
You guys totally baffle me sometimes.
Jameel,
Richie's Pizza and Carvel ice cream were THE meeting places for English speakers in Jerusalem. I remember them well.
Hashfanatic,
Perhaps the deep inner meaning of this post will become clear to you after a few more tokes...
now that's one I wish I had blogged :)
Well, Jewish Nazi says, as Jewish Nazi does.....
Thanks for showing us who you are, "cosmic". We believe you.
Hashfanatic,
With regards to comments like that my mother used to say, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me."
Thanks Mom!
Cosmic X, I just discovered your site and I have to say, in regard hashfanatic's comment, lo, these many years later, he's not insulting you, specifically.
He is insulting all Jews, everywhere, with the most heinous and hurtful insult possible.
He is associating Jews with the very people who killed 6 million of us.
In other words, he using the Holocaust as a weapon against the Jewish people.
I do not know if you will see this message, but I stumbled across your site this morning.
I live here.
