DovBearGate

DovWeasel just isn't leaving good old DovBear alone. It seems that he found seven more examples of plagiarism on DovBear's blog.

This is becoming interesting. It reminds me of the book, All the President's Men. DovWeasel is playing the role of deep-throat, DovBear is Richard Nixon, and Renegade Rebbetzin and Failed Messiah are .... never mind.

Update: "Tricky Dovie" has published the following:
Additional instances of plagiarism not caught during the Ren Reb's Copyscape review are in the process of being corrected. I will continue to examine my blog and to correct every instance of plagiarism that I discover. Future examples of plagiarism and/or phrase-borrowing brought to my personal attention via email will also be corrected. It's extremely important to me that the blog be clean, and any help you can provide me in this endeavor will be appreciated. Thank you
He has also enabled comment moderation on his blog. I wonder why.

Some of these new examples are not plagiarism. Some are, but are most likely due to sloppy writing (and perhaps broken links – if text was incorrectly linked, Google and Copyscape won't see it).

I just ran DB's Oct. 2004 archive on Copyscape and did not find the examples DW found. I tried the TNR example with Google and did find that, but again, Copyscape missed it.

All this being said, DB needs to fix any plagiarim that remains. I'm sure he will.

To be clearer, DB made a good-faith effort to repair the problems. Copyscape screwed up.

GOOD FAITH?

he copied, barely made tiny changes, no attribution, misrepresented it all as his own work - made peopel think he was all that

in school we call this cheating
lying, deceivingpui

It is cheating. But, try to process here:

1. He made a GOOD FAITH effort to fix the posts. Copyscape, the program used, failed.

2. Read what I wrote here.

You can't do that, can you? Why? Because there is no link. But, in the days before Blogger added a broken html warning feature, one could easily post and never realize the link was broken.

You assume DB simply stole the text. In several cases, perhaps many cases, it is far more likely he simply had bad links or was sloppy when posting. In other words, no criminal intent, just sloppy work. At the end of the day, that is plagiarism, too, but it is not malicious But many of DB's detractors, the Weasel included, clearly seem to be malicious.

If I can use Copyscape, and in 1 minute run an archive page and come up with the same results as Ren Reb, it shows DB was being honest in his attempt to clean up his act. That is exactly what I did. Note the Weasel and Avrech and DB's other detractors did not do this simple test. If they had, they would have seen that DB was telling the truth, and was honestly trying to clean up his blog.

But I guess the idea of teshuva is foreign to you God-fearing Yidden.

That's pretty funny really, who would have thought DovBear needed to plagiarize to churn out the junk he does

Original Source:

"During the first Gulf War in 1991, PA Arabs cheered Saddam's missile attacks on Israel, chanting, "Beloved Saddam, strike Tel Aviv," as the Scud missiles flew overhead."

Sultan Knish:

"During the first Gulf War in 1991, the Palestinians cheered Saddam’s missile attacks on Israel, chanting “Beloved Saddam, strike Tel Aviv,” as the Scud missiles flew overhead."

It's posted as a quote, but with no attributed source. This is a form of plagiarism. Of course, one could argue this is merely sloppy writing and posting …

Pot. Kettle. Black.

And that find, my friend took all of 30 seconds.

"DovBear is Richard Nixon"

Don't defame me after my death!

emphasis, it's posted as A QUOTE

I do not claim it my work

Dovbear treated other people's work as his own without quotes

Again, he said PUBLICLY that he would fix any problem posts brought to his attention. He said that last week. He apparently fixed one post (according to you) that he did not make public? And that is "sanitizing" his archives?

Please. DB said he would fix any problem posts brought to his attention. He is doing so.

What more can you ask for?

Obviously, the idea of teshuva only applies to you, Kishke, and to the Weasel, when you fail. But to anyone else, it's simply open season.

Kishke –

Again, the man said he would fix any posts brought to his attention. When he said that, NO ONE, NOT EVEN YOU, asked for a list or an accounting. You disparage him AFTER THE FACT for something you could easily have demanded (or asked for) eariler. Get it?

Anonymous said...

It's after the fact because you did not make the demand until AFTER you thought he had changed a post without making that change public.

Anonymous said...

BTW, what change was made in that one post?

Good faith would be to shut down his blog for a while and come back full of knowledge of attribution and copyright.
He isnt making good, he got caught and like all thiefs thats what he is sorry about.

And of course it fortunate that Dov is not a Charedi or Scotty would be roasting him instead of defending him, hypocrite that he is.
