Quote of the Day, "I'm a Proud Homophobe"

The quote of the day was uttered by Bezalel Smotrich, number 8 on the Jewish Home list IDF Radio reports:
It is permissable for anybody to decide that he does not want to live a normal life, it is his full right. It is not his right, just because he does not feel comfortable to be abnormal, to demand from us all to undermine the concept of norm and to say there is no such thing as normal already...Every person in his home is allowed to be abnormal and to establish any kind of family unit that he wants. He cannot demand (recognition) from me as a state, and this is where it starts. He feels uncomfortable to be an exception, it is not fun."
Upon hearing these things someone in the crowd shouted, "You dark homophobe, my brother is not an animal, my friends are not animals." Smotrich replied, "I'm a proud homophobe!"

He shouldn't say it is "permissible" It is certainly not! He's making concessions, and he's also being rather artificial.

And on the other hand, it is too strong and it is confused.

Better would be like this:

"It is one thing for anybody to decide that he does not want to, or cannot, lead a normal life. In our times, we don't interfere with whatever anybody does, with very few exceptions.

It is another thing, just because being being normal does not feel comfortable, or suitable, to demand from us all to undermine the very concept of what is the norm and to say there is no such thing as normal any more...

Every person in his home can, these days, be as abnormal as he wants, except mostly when considerations of age, force, or undue influence, such as because of a job, are involved. (and also very close relationships.)

Except for that, we don't police this. And maybe that's a good thing.

So any person can establish any kind of an informal family unit that he wants. But he cannot demand (recognition) from me as a state. Do we recognize two or three wives? Do we even perform marriages between people of different religions?

And on the otehr hand, do all family relationships involve sexual intercourse?

He feels uncomfortable to be an exception, it is not fun. But that is not enough of a reason to depart from the concept of normality.

And if you did, should all the rules and regulations be the same? That's what you get by using the same word. It's not the same thing. But some people want to pretend."

Thanks for your comment, Sammy. Of course, by saying "permissible" he was refering to the current laws of the state and not to the what The Holy One Blessed Be He requires of us.
